IEP Update

Here are the formal goals we have agreed to for Dominic with the school district. I think they’re actually all very attainable.

First, the ones we’re starting now, in the current preschool class:

Dominic will independently use vocabulary to answer personal information questions (such as name, age, address, phone number) in 4/5 opportunities
Right now, he cannot answer any of these. This was a specific addition of ours

Dominic will make wants and needs known and share knowledge including feelings using 3-5 word sentences in 4/5 opportunities
He currently uses 1-2 words

Dominic will independently follow 2-3 step directions outside of routine on 4/5 opportunities
He currently follows 1-2 step directions out of routine with occasional prompts.

Dominic will receptively identify action word pictures in 4/5 opportunities
Dominic identifies approximately 10 action words

Dominic will identify the alphabet letters in his first name on 4/5 opportunities
At school, he identifies D. At Alpine, they've got him receptively identifying all the letters in his first name and working on his last. We need to see some generalization here.

Dominic will label basic concepts (such as quality/quantity, spatial, temporal, colors, and shapes) on 4/5 opportunities
This is a big one - he's got all the basic colors at Alpine, but at school only blue and red are consistentl. Shapes are a problem, he doesn't have any yet. The rest of them he has nothing on.

Dominic will repeat the numbers 1-10 on 4/5 opportunities
He does this already for us at home, but at school, he's only repeating 1-3.

When asked, Dominic will answer “wh” questions such as what, which, who, where, how, and why on 4/5 opportunities
He currently responds to basic "what" questions

Dominic will trace and copy his first name on 4/5 opportunities.
He currently attempts the letter D. All hand over hand at present.

And these are the ones that will start in the fall. The earlier ones will remain in play, we’re just starting the additional ones later.

Given direct instruction, Dominic will use the correct formation for writing his numbers from 1-10 with 100% accuracy when probed for 3 consecutive school days.
new skill entirely

Given direct instruction, Dominic will label and sequence whole number from 1-10 with 100% accuracy when probed for 3 consecutive school days.
he likes the buttons on the microwave, and he consistently receptively identifies the 0.

Given direct instruction, Dominic will match numbers from 1 through 10 in a one to one correspondence with 100% accuracy when probed for 3 consecutive school days
new skill

Given direct instruction, Dominic will receptively/expressively label all 26 letters of the alphabet with 100% accuracy when first probed for 3 consecutive school days.
new skill for school. I believe he is receptively identifying his letters at Alpine, at least the ones in his name.

Given direct instruction, Dominic will read 10+ common words by sight with 100% accuracy when first probed for 3 consecutive school days.
they said this and i said "good luck".

Given direct instruction, Dominic will use correct formation to write all 26 letters of the alphabet (lower case) with 100% accuracy when first probed for 3 consecutive school days.
this one is going to take a LOT of OT.

It's fabulous that you got a 1:1 assistant for him! It's unheard of in my town.
