Last Alpine Parent meeting....

We had our very last parent meeting at Alpine yesterday.  We went over the major behavioral stuff – which has only been happening since they came back to the building post-fire evacuation.  (I had them graph number of minutes in non compliance by day for the last 3 months)

They’ve tweaked his behavior plan to basically remove all attention from him (he likes playing to an audience) and I got to see that first hand today when I popped over to give him his MMS.  I don’t see it as being effective in any environment other than  Alpine – he got squirmy and climbed on the desk.  So they had 4 therapists around him, with their backs to him, and were having him fit large foam puzzle pieces together to re earn his tokens.  He could really care less.  But if its what they want to do for the next 2 weeks, that’s fine with me. I’ll take that over the physically wrestling with him.   He sat down nicely when I firmly told him to.  There were no tears or screaming with this method.

Anyway, the meeting went well. We reviewed in detail his current program statuses and talked about the transition to full day D11.  I think it’ll go fine.  They’re going to get me a final copy of his binder and program target data after he’s done and we’ll make a copy of that for his SPED teacher.  They reiterated that they’ll remain available to assist D11 with the transitioning as needed, which is really nice of them. It seems really weird to think of our lives sans Alpine, but money has not rained out of the sky so we just cannot stay.  Whether we try to go back next summer or not remains to be seen.  I think Dominic would have to really have a hard year for us to pick the 13K therapy summer over the 2K camp/social skill building summer, but we’ll see.

We have Pretend Play!

So, preregression, one of the things that Dominic did a lot of was care for his toys... you know, wrap them in blankets hug them and kiss them, and feed them, wrap strings around their necks and take them for walks,  etc.  That all went away with the regression.

We've been seeing glimmers of it, but today, after a fabulous chiropractic appointment, he came home and got out his old bedraggled red beanie baby dog.   He put it on his shoulder and then when it was time for lunch, he tried to make it sit.  he said "sit".  It didn't follow instructions. So he said ... "blanket".  I handed him a dish towel.  He laid that dog down, covered it with the blanket , kissed it, and said "sleeping, baby".   He's been carrying it around since, wrapped in the towel. It came outside and sat beside the pool while he had water play, and its currently watching TV with him.

its been a long time, but its really cool to watch.

Peanuts

so remember I mentioned us going out to eat last week and Dominic having an absolute BLAST shelling and eating peanuts?

There's a scene in the movie Dumbo where the elephant shells and eats peanuts. He's been watching it and running around exclaiming "peenus, peenus".

This is Awesome.

I liked the below so much (found on a private facebook group), that i'm borrowing and putting here.  Its awesome.
There are two steps to autism.
The first step is the environmental insult that will overcome the detox ability of the child, and lead to various levels of immune system dysfunction and neurological damage. This can lead to a variety of symptoms.
The second step is what happens when the immune system is no longer able to regulate the "bugs". Yeast, parasites, etc begin to grow out of control and in their path leave a wake of symptoms. Many of which overlap with the first set of symptoms.
Many of us have removed the original toxic insult, and even repaired what was broken (Immunotherapy, stem cell, HBOT), but the symptoms persist because the legacy of the second step is this very much present.

A Mid Week Camp update...

Day camp at the ymca is going really well.  So far, the counselors are reporting no behavioral issues, and that he's "a pleasure" to be around.   He says yes when asked if he had fun during his day, and then says "swimming".  So he loves the swimming part.  They did have a dietary infraction on Tuesdsay, where one camper gave him animal crackers before the counselor could stop her, but he didn't seem to have much of  a reaction (yay!).

We have been phasing out supplements the last  few weeks, and are very pleased that we have not seen increase in behavioral issues. We'll be leaving the Unique Healing protocol, gaba, and magnesium in place, and I believe everything else will be paused while we try a new protocol.  I have high hopes for this one, so we'll see how it goes- we always try not to get excited because the rollercoaster is no fun.  Regardless, its very nice to be able to pull him off so many other things and still maintain his    We are still doing the digital homeopathy - currently we're 6 weeks into a 30 week protocol   He's doing much better now that i've started safety pinning the patch to his shirt than with it stuck to him.
