this and that
- Dominic's over his crud. I'm not. I got antibiotics yesterday for a residual sinus infection.
- Dominic had a good OT session today - first session in 3 weeks (she was out sick last week, and we're on an every other week schedule), and she was thrilled with his progress. We had added a writing claw at both the school district and Alpine to work on his grip. while his preference is still the fist grip, he corrected easily into a tripod grip for her and drew line up, line down, circle, and a plus sign. Last time, he was only able to do line up and line down. She said he seemed more talkative for her too. That he was doing better organizing things in his head.
- We have a parent meeting at Alpine tomorrow. I don't expect anything earth shattering.
- I missed an excellent photo opportunity this weekend. Dominic puts away his own laundry now (which is a huge step), and I had told him to put away some clean underwear. I turned around and he had them on his head. We about fell down laughing. It was very cute. And now he wont' do it, so i can't take a picture to share the cuteness.

Oh Look, its been 2 weeks since I’ve written anything.
On the Dominic front, he has caught and recovered from the crud (Rod and I are still recovering). We’re continuing to ramp up his Bioray Liver Life and NDF+ dose while keeping a close eye on his urine ph every morning to make sure he’s pulling out acids. Its like a chemistry experiment every morning.
What I can say about this process is that we’re continuing to see what started in January or so, which is the stubbornness, and willfulness and personality. This is across all boards, Alpine, and D11 and home etc. Its like the obnoxious 3 year old stage where he’s pushing every boundary and everything is DRAMA. And while I fully appreciate the willfulness is genetic, and that this is a normal stage and we WANT him to get through it, its downright annoying. There is SUCH drama now associated with every little thing – if he gets told NO, we get quivery lip and crocodile tears. If he wants space, he’ll push you away and / or go in the other room and close the door. It would probably be less annoying if we understood what he is trying to say verbally – but we don’t. so its frustrating.
Along with that, he’s starting to have rounds of non compliance and behavior issues at Alpine, which is unusual for him. So we hope he goes through those quickly.
With the detoxing, he’s waking up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, which he wasn’t for months (this is in addition to going when we get him up at 10pm). So we’re tired. This is with the NDF+ being given only at 6am. And we’re at a whopping 2 drops. So clearly he’s got stuff to detox.
Spring break started today, so no morning school until the 29th. He’s got Alpine Mon-Wed of next week and then a long weekend
I am HALFWAY to my goal for the Alpine Walk. Thank you to everyone who’s pitched in, and if you haven’t already, I’d love it if you sponsored me for a few dollars here: http://www.firstgiving.com/dominicsteam
Dominic’s team is currently 4th, and ya’ll know how competitive I am…. The scary thing is I haven’t walked 5k in… ages. And am ridiculously out of shape. So once this cold goes away, I’ve got some prep work to do.

IEP Update
First, the ones we’re starting now, in the current preschool class:
Dominic will independently use vocabulary to answer personal information questions (such as name, age, address, phone number) in 4/5 opportunities
Right now, he cannot answer any of these. This was a specific addition of ours
Dominic will make wants and needs known and share knowledge including feelings using 3-5 word sentences in 4/5 opportunities
He currently uses 1-2 words
Dominic will independently follow 2-3 step directions outside of routine on 4/5 opportunities
He currently follows 1-2 step directions out of routine with occasional prompts.
Dominic will receptively identify action word pictures in 4/5 opportunities
Dominic identifies approximately 10 action words
Dominic will identify the alphabet letters in his first name on 4/5 opportunities
At school, he identifies D. At Alpine, they've got him receptively identifying all the letters in his first name and working on his last. We need to see some generalization here.
Dominic will label basic concepts (such as quality/quantity, spatial, temporal, colors, and shapes) on 4/5 opportunities
This is a big one - he's got all the basic colors at Alpine, but at school only blue and red are consistentl. Shapes are a problem, he doesn't have any yet. The rest of them he has nothing on.
Dominic will repeat the numbers 1-10 on 4/5 opportunities
He does this already for us at home, but at school, he's only repeating 1-3.
When asked, Dominic will answer “wh” questions such as what, which, who, where, how, and why on 4/5 opportunities
He currently responds to basic "what" questions
Dominic will trace and copy his first name on 4/5 opportunities.
He currently attempts the letter D. All hand over hand at present.
And these are the ones that will start in the fall. The earlier ones will remain in play, we’re just starting the additional ones later.
Given direct instruction, Dominic will use the correct formation for writing his numbers from 1-10 with 100% accuracy when probed for 3 consecutive school days.
new skill entirely
Given direct instruction, Dominic will label and sequence whole number from 1-10 with 100% accuracy when probed for 3 consecutive school days.
he likes the buttons on the microwave, and he consistently receptively identifies the 0.
Given direct instruction, Dominic will match numbers from 1 through 10 in a one to one correspondence with 100% accuracy when probed for 3 consecutive school days
new skill
Given direct instruction, Dominic will receptively/expressively label all 26 letters of the alphabet with 100% accuracy when first probed for 3 consecutive school days.
new skill for school. I believe he is receptively identifying his letters at Alpine, at least the ones in his name.
Given direct instruction, Dominic will read 10+ common words by sight with 100% accuracy when first probed for 3 consecutive school days.
they said this and i said "good luck".
Given direct instruction, Dominic will use correct formation to write all 26 letters of the alphabet (lower case) with 100% accuracy when first probed for 3 consecutive school days.
this one is going to take a LOT of OT.
