Protocol Tweaks...

So we are always tweaking Dominics extra supplementation around here, based upon both kinetic muscle testing and known postive therapies that we rotate through.  The constants remain the CD and parasite protocol, EFA's, Vit D and Gaba, but most everything else we are fairly constantly playing with.

Most recently, we have had a yeast flare and none of my usual tricks were working.  So we added in Candex and Lactic Acid Yeast this weekend. Lactic Acid yeast actually has a  little casien in it because its made with whey, so we've never tried it, but the way it works is by devouring candida.  (as opposed to killing it and letting it release its chemicals in die off).  Then the lactic acid yeast doesn't actually populate in the gut.   We are just really tired of yeast, so we are knowingly breaking the GFCFSF supplement rules and trying this to see what happens.

We also recently added back in Quercitin, which is something thats helped in the past for spring time allergies.  This is on a suspicion that some of the non compliance lately is due to spring allergy headaches.

Sunday morning, at breakfast, Dominic spontaneously looked at me, and said "I want a piece of bacon please".  The whole 7 word, clearly enunciated sentence.  not just "wa bacon".  I about fell off my chair.   Then, one of Rod's friends came over and Dominic looked at him and said "Good Morning, Zach" with no prompting.

Its a nice thing when the tweaks get fairly instant positive response

The hard stuff...

right, so April. Autism Awareness month.  I haven't been blogging, but I've been reading.

The CDC says autism is 1 in 68... and of that 1 in 42 are boys.  Those're old numbers too - i believe thats still the kids who are 10 and up.  Dominic's not even counted yet.

The press is on their pro vaccination push, again.  Its tiresome.  Doesn't the rest of the world wonder why the pharmaceutical industry needs legislation protecting them from lawsuits in the case of vaccine injury if vaccines don't injure kids?    I saw a stat somewhere recently that only about half of Americans believe childhood vaccinations are safe and effective.  Even the scientists who made the vaccines are saying that the industry lied about their effectiveness

Smart people who write about are getting threatened.

In the meantime, back in the trenches...
Special ed teachers are abusing our kids

parents are killing their children and themselves because they cannot get services or help and simply cannot manage the day to day aggression found in older teenagers with Autism.

When are we, as a society,  going to realize that we have a true crisis on our hands.  When 1 in 68 adults requires a group home, help toileting, SSI Disability because they are not capable of work?  will that do it?  Or will it have to wait for it to be 1 in 10???

When are parents going to realize its not normal or okay to celebrate a child that is in so much physical pain they injure themselves daily, smear their feces, break windows/doors because they have no outlet, are so infested with pathogens that they eat clothing, dirt, dog food...  So damaged by gmo's / vaccine additivs / whatever that they cannot speak, in some cases cannot walk???  Why are we celebrating being aware of this?? We should be shaking in our boots for what is coming.

Autism Awareness walk 2014 - with pictures! part 2

 The walk!  Dominic and Shanti led off like they usually do and spent almost the entire walk ahead of us...

Walking with daddy

The irresistable retaining wall that he must've walked the dog up and down at least a dozen times...

Family picture!!!

And out to lunch at Red Robin with our roommate after the walk.  First time the boy has had french fries since January - and we came home after lunch and he's been so calm.  i think that we are going to relax his diet.

Overall, we are so pleased with how well he did all day today. :)

Autism Awareness walk 2014 - with pictures! part 1 - before the walk.

I'm breaking the walk day post into 2 because there's a lot of great pictures and I don't want to completely overload everyone's bandwidth...

Getting ready!

Both so excited to go this morning.  Shanti started whimpering with excitement as soon as we got up this morning and Dominic got his shoes and was ready to go walkies before I even had breakfast together.

Remember the Armadillo?  No issues this year with large stuffed people.

 There was a SkySox mascot too and Dominic had a fabulous time interacting with him.  We got a lot of comments on Shanti's mohawk, and on how good Shanti is with Dominic.  Shanti is service animal good.  It amazes people.

Getting ready for the kids race.  Last year, he ran with Daddy.  This year, tho, he did the WHOLE thing by himself with NO prompting. And had fun.

Here he is at the end of the Kids race

And here is he sitting down with Shanti after the kids race but before the actual walk started.

Overall, zero stress with the crowd, he listened to directions really well and stayed within eyeline of us.  Its really nice to not have to have a hand on him the whole time we are out in a crowd like that.  Further - i took him to the bathroom before the race started and he didn't want to go in the ladies room, so he WAITED right where i told him to while I went and then he went in the mens room.  Seriously - it was one of those "okay we'll give it a try because there're lots of people we know milling about moments", I came out and found him sitting right under the water fountain I told him to wait at.

Best intentions and all that....

Yeah, so much for blogging regularly in April.  Its been.. busy.

Dominic is doing well. Its been a weird month - Daddy is recovering from his car accident last month and Dominic has been more emotional since then.  We are working hard on reassuring him that everything and everyone is going to be just fine.  Its interesting to see how connected he is to the energies in the house.  No shock there...

We have also had our resurgence of spring allergies which always means some non compliance.  Generally MArch and April are difficult months for us.  Hopefully May will bring some allergy stability.    On the bright side, he's been spending HOURS outside independently doing typical little boy things like climbing anything climbable, running, playing with cars in the grass, and generally having a fantastic time.

That said, we're seeing some interesting progress...

Last night, Dominic didn't want to go to bed at bedtime.  He dawdled in his bath, he had to kiss everyone mulitple times before bed, and then as a last ditch effort he looked at me and said "Trim Nails???".

yes, you read that right.  The child who for YEARS cried and screamed (and hit and bit and kicked) when it was time to trim his fingernails ASKED for it. ASKED.   And he did a super typical thing of trying to delay bedtime.  So cute.

Then... this morning I was in the bathroom getting ready for work (our bathroom is one that has access from both our bedroom and Dominic's) and he knocked on the door, waited for me to say "come in" and then came in.  I believe that this is the first time in his life that he has knocked first instead of just walking in.  Floored me.

Tomorrow we are walking in the Alpine Autism Center 5K. It will be our 5th year to walk with them and the whole family, dog included, will be walking. I'm sure i'll post pictures at some point over the weekend.

Random pictures from the last few weeks

Because I have been delinquent in blogging, and am trying to get back into the swing of things, here are a handful of pictures and stories from the last few weeks

Dominic has such a hard time writing and could care less about coloring.  We were vastly amused when he decided that he needed to c olor his toy dragon with the restaurant crayings, but... LOOK at that focus and appropriate grip!

Daddy was in a car accident a few weeks ago and Dominic has been very much wanting to make sure he's okay.  Here is Dominic sitting RIGHT next to him (playing angry birds on his ipad) while Daddy got a chirpractic adjustment.

Recent trip to the zoo where Dominic loved on the chickens.  We are still debating getting our own chickens, but aren't really sure where to put them.  He would love them.  Shanti would probably go crazy.

That same trip to the Zoo - he very clearly said "Want Ride Horse".  So i bought him the ridiculously priced 4 times around the pen horse ride.   He loved it.

Speaking of Angry birds - here is one on his head.    He keeps telling us he wants to go shopping for a pig, which we believe he is referring to one of those Angry Bird green pig things, but we haven't found him one yet.  Anyone with links is welcome to share.  I need to get the boy a pig.

Autism Action! What you can do

April is Autism Awareness month.  I think that by now if you're in my life, you're plenty AWARE already, so around here we are going to celebrate Autism ACTION month.

1.  We will not be lighitng up ANYTHING Blue.  Autism Speaks does not speak for us. Go back to last years post as to why I personally will never support them.

2.  Just Launched is an effort that I am going to find a way to be a part of - The Thinking Moms Revolution has launched Team TMR. I know these ladies.  They are *my people*

3.  Presuming we are all healthy - we will be walking Alpine Autism Center's 5K in a few weeks and we have the last few years.  If you are thusly inclined to sponsor us, you can do that here.  Alpine does good work with our kids.   If you are local, sign up to come down and walk. Its great fun.

But the biggest thing you can do - you can do at a personal level. FIND a family with Autism, and offer to make them dinner... babysit the kids so Mom and Dad can have a date...  interact with them because I guarantee you they are isolated by the diagnosis and whirlwind of therapies and treatment and would LOVE to be reminded that people outside the Autism world still care about them.   And understand that in the chaos of their lives they are clinging to lifelines like the one you throw them - even if it seems like they are very focused on the crazy that is their life - you make a huge difference.

~~~
As is my pattern, I'm hoping to get regular posts out to you this month.  I have lots of adorable Dominic progress to tell you about and pictures to share, but March kind of disappeared on me.
